Louis Armstrong's house.
Armchair travelers rejoice. Nothing is more charming than browsing comfortably inside the homes of some of the world’s most famous people. And discover which objects they loved to surround themselves with between works of art and furnishing accessories.
"When life meets art", inside the homes of the world's most creative people.
All this is thanks to a recently published book, "WHEN LIFE MEETS ART" (Phaidon), which explores the masterpieces of interior design around the globe. From the 1940s till today, and its intertwining with art. It is a geographically organized tour through 250 beautiful interiors, illustrating iconic rooms in 9 continental regions and more than 50 countries.
In the book, we find the work of icons of interior design past and present, such as Kelly Behun, Stéphane Boudin, Jacques Grange, Peter Marino, Karim Rashid, Studio KO, Faye Toogood, Axel Vervoordt, and Kelly Wearstler.
Karim Rashid's and Eileen Gray's homes.
Here we can discover the homes of beloved personalities: from Alvar Alto to Victor Hugo, Francis Bacon to Jackson Pollock, Nicki de Saint Phalle to Carlo Mollino, Henry Moore to Eileen Gray, Louis Armstrong to Virginia Woolf, David Bowie to Beyoncé, Gianni Versace to Alessandro Michele, to name just a few.
Many of these interiors are undiscovered, and others are homes open to the public. We will visit the homes of illustrious men and women, ranging from classic to contemporary, from minimal to maximal designs.
The houses included in the book illuminate the cornerstones of design, many of them surprising with spectacular effects.
The author Sam Lubell has written several books about architecture. He is a contributing editor at The Architect's Newspaper and writes for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Atlantic, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, and other publications.
