Perone Peppe

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples (1994), he started making sculptures and installations in which he represents animals and objects of daily use, drawn from their context. All subjects are covered with a thin layer of sand, a material that hints at both childhood games and at the fragility of things subject to processes of unceasing transformation.
From a technical point of view, the artist's choice of using sand for coating his pieces of work is on one hand linked with the recalling of a childhood world and the idea of art as a game, and on the other hand with the necessity of placing a sort of "filter", a slippage as to our usual perception of reality and is connected to the idea of fragility of things subject to processes of unceasing transformation. In that way the daily element undergoes a crystallisation that casts it outside of time, thus reinforcing its metaphysical and enigmatic aspects.
