About the artist

Hendrickson Kohlene

United States

Kohlene Hendrickson was born in 1958 in California, USA, and currently lives and works in Romainmôtier, Switzerland. She studied Fine Arts at the Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and worked for 12 years as an illustrator and art director before returning to fine arts. She studied fresco with Federico Vigil, a disciple of Diego Rivera, which deepened her passion for mural art. Her journey led her to Italy, where she discovered encaustic painting. In her search for a medium that could express transparent layering of colors and rich, tactile materiality, she developed a unique multi-media technique, combining beeswax, resin, pigments, and gum arabic. Hendrickson’s work is luminous and expressive, blending abstract figuration with explorations of dimensionality, human experience, and the cosmic realm of EROS.

This geometric abstraction features bold, angular forms in a limited palette of white, black, deep gray, and mustard yellow. The interlocking shapes create a sense of depth and movement, as if they are shifting or emerging from the canvas. The textured surface adds a tactile dimension, inviting closer exploration.
