Barbara McGivern (1945–2019) was a contemporary Canadian artist from Toronto. After several years working at Columbia Pictures Television, she turned to painting in 1981. She enrolled at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1984, where she studied under renowned Canadian artists, including Graham Coughtry, and graduated in 1988 with a degree in Experimental Arts. McGivern was deeply inspired by her surroundings, travels, and teachers. During a 1992 trip to Europe, she was captivated by exhibitions of Henri Matisse, Fernando Botero, and the French Impressionists. Her work spanned various styles and subjects, from abstraction to still lifes and urban scenes. Throughout her career, McGivern was represented by galleries in Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton, as well as international venues in Dubai, Zurich, Berlin, London, Paris, and Madrid.
