  • About

The series highlights iconic and ancient forms that mark the intersection between form and sculpture, juxtaposing both tension and equilibrium, while remaining true to our long association with design and sculptural objects.

The Frames are drawn out of the Boat Series, which expresses both notions of journey and object, as well as a heritage of utility through time. The forms are embedded in our subconscious and express our nomadic tendencies, as symbols of our search for new horizons and unexpected destinations.

Baldwin and Guggisberg

We, Philip Baldwin (1947) and Monica Guggisberg (1955), have been a collaborative team for forty years. We share an instinctive appreciation for the subtle blending of art and design, functionality and abstract expression, combined with a love of material – especially glass.
Over time our work has developed its own distinctive signature, based on Italian cold-working «battuto» combined with the Swedish overlay process for layering colors. Our work in these techniques has been pioneering in the field. Color, light, texture, pattern, and shape together allow us to reveal an undercurrent of meaning and value, adhering to the simplest of forms and clear lines. Although we have become more sculptural in our focus over the years, we seek to imbue everything we do with a deep connection to archetypal forms and shapes, while striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. We want to honor eternal symbols of human culture and history while embracing contemporary evolution in form and meaning.
